The Hendersonville High School Orchestra and Chorus performs final concert of the year, May 17

The HHS Orchestra and Chorus present their final concert of the year on May 17 at the Hendersonville High School Auditorium.

This will be an eclectic performance of both classic and popular music. Highlights include a full orchestra performance of Berlioz’s March to the Scaffold, a Mendelssohn piano concerto with pianist, Christopher Tavernier, Music from Broadway musical hit, Hamilton performed by the chorus, and featured solos for graduating senior members of the orchestra and chorus.

The Spring program will be presented at the Hendersonville High School Auditorium, 1 Bearcat Blvd, Hendersonville, NC – Thursday, May 17 at 7:00pm.  There is a $5/person suggested donation collected at the door.

On Friday, April 13, the Hendersonville High School music department competed at Festival Disney in Walt Disney World.  HHS represented broadly among the competition with five different ensembles: Combined Band, String Orchestra, Jazz Band, Symphonic Orchestra, and Concert Choir. Band director, James Phillips, conducted the HHS Band and Jazz Band.  Orchestra and Chorus director, Amanda Tant, conducted the HHS Orchestra and HHS Chorus.  Mr. Phillips and Ms. Tant co-conducted the newly created HHS Symphony Orchestra featuring students from both the band and orchestra programs.

The following ratings and recognitions were awarded to Hendersonville High School:

  • Symphonic Orchestra: Superior Rating and Bronze Award over all instrumental ensembles
  • Concert Choir: Superior Rating
  • Jazz Band: Excellent Rating Combined Band
  • String Orchestra: Excellent Rating

Additionally, two music students were singled out for their outstanding solos.

  • Christopher Tavernier: Outstanding instrumental soloist (Piano, String Orchestra)
  • Isabel Hughes: Outstanding jazz soloist (Vocalist, Jazz Band)

The HHS Music Department rehearsed for months to prepare for this endeavor.  Trophies are currently on display in the front office of the school.  Haven’t heard these incredible students yet? It’s not too late!

The following week, the HHS Bands present their Spring Concert on Thursday, May 24 at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. $3 at the door.
