Thomas Wolfe Memorial announces 2015 “Telling Our Tales” student writing competition

 

“Telling Our Tales,” an annual writing contest for young people is afoot. Submissions will be accepted through September 26th, after which they will be judged. Cash prizes for 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners will be: $50, $30 and $20 respectively for each of three different age groups.

Original submissions will be motivated by a Thomas Wolfe, short story, “Gulliver: The Story of a Tall Man,”as it appeared in Scribner’s Magazine.

Organizers will invite the winners to present their stories and accept awards at a program at the Thomas Wolfe Memorial’s visitor center on Saturday, October 17th.

Announcement from Thomas Wolfe Memorial:
The Thomas Wolfe Memorial invites you to participate in the 2015 “Telling Our Tales” Student Writing Competition. In this competition, students will submit their own work of fiction inspired by Thomas Wolfe’s short story “Gulliver: The Story of a Tall Man.” Thomas Wolfe in You Can’t Go Home Again wrote about the pending publication of his first book; “This news added immensely to his excitement. He was eager to see his name in print…” Submissions may be hand delivered, postmarked or emailed by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday September 26, 2015. First, second, and third place winners will be chosen from three age groups: Grades 4-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Cash awards will be given to first, second, and third place winners. Winners will be invited to present their stories and accept their awards at a program at the Thomas Wolfe Memorial’s visitor center on Saturday, October 17th.
