Three Buncombe County residents are among the recipients of awards given by the Warren Wilson College Alumni Association at the college’s 2012 Homecoming.

Award recipients included Bob Washel of Swannanoa, Distinguished Alumni Award, who recently retired from Buncombe County Schools after 40 years of service; Dr. Hugh Verner of Asheville, Distinguished Service Award, longtime friend and former trustee of the college who helped lead Warren Wilson’s highly successful Centennial Campaign; and Bill Mosher of Swannanoa, Distinguished Service Award, former Warren Wilson professor who led more than 200 students to Sri Lanka and India on a total of 15 study-abroad journeys.

Recipients of the Distinguished Community Service Award were Gene Hileman of San Antonio, retired professor at Northeastern State University who was instrumental in establishing a women’s shelter in Tahlequah, Okla.; and Tom and Jocelyn Logan of Marion, Ill., who developed a shallow well system enabling villages in Africa to have safe, clean water.
