Tigg’s Pond Retreat Center hosts two-day “Solstice Arts” festival June 18 & 19

Solstice Arts at Tigg’s Pond Retreat Center

David and Molly Sharp Voorhees and artist friends, along with Rev. Posy Jackson and Rev. Lyndon Harris will be hosting an two-day indoor arts and crafts event, “Solstice Arts,” at Tigg’s Pond Retreat Center in Zirconia, N.C. on Saturday, June 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 19 from noon to 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

With more than a dozen invited artists, a wide range of artwork will be on exhibit and offered for sale including pottery, jewelry, stained glass, watercolor, pastel and oil paintings, metalwork, handmade books, felt, weaving, woodworking, and photography, furniture, birdhouses and caricatures. Food and drinks will also be available. Other offerings include demonstrations in blacksmithing, pottery, jewelry and weaving, as well as a music pickin’ parlor.

Participating artists include David Voorhees with a wide assortment of his stoneware and porcelain pottery including the results of a wood firing completed just weeks before the event. Molly Sharp will be showing new creations in sterling silver along with her ever popular beach pebble jewelry. Other invited artists include Jane Voorhees with original watercolors and pastels, prints, cards and handmade books; Cheryl Stippich will have one-of-a-kind stained glass and polymer clay and glass bead jewelry; Susan Voorhees with pastel and oil paintings; Saundra Poces with pottery; Matthew Waldrop with forged metalwork; LaRue Downing with custom wood furniture; Cathy Langdon with hand woven items; Honey Burrell with pottery; Meredith Burns with sterling jewelry; Amy Perrier with acrylic “hand” painting; Lorraine Cathey with felted art, Walt Cottingham with handmade birdhouses, Shirley Walsh with photography, and Mark Gardner with turned wood bowls.

Additional offerings include caricatures by cartoonist Randy Molton, touring the scenic grounds of Tigg’s Pond and visit their Labyrinth, and a music pickin’ parlor hosted by Lyndon Harris. Bring your instrument!

Tigg’s Pond Retreat Center is located on 54 wooded acres and landscaped grounds just off of Exit 3 of US 25 in Zirconia. Colorful signs will show you the way from Exit 3 off U.S. 25, with plenty of free parking, handicap accessible. The address is 212 Fiddlehead Lane, Zirconia, NC 28790.
