Tipping Point Grants return for third year

Press release from Buncombe County Government:

Buncombe County Government is seeking proposals from community members who are dedicated to making things better. These grants are designed to support the efforts of ordinary people…it could be a father who plants a community garden, a neighbor who advocates for students within the school system, or a resident who organizes the neighborhood to pick up trash and keep community spaces clean. These efforts are vital to the health of our community.

What are Tipping Point Grants?
These are small grants to help amplify community efforts. Tipping Point Grants aim to tip the scale toward greater resiliency by adding positive factors and offloading negative factors. These grants will either fuel what is already happening or allow grantees to develop their own local projects that create pathways to greater resiliency in the community – actions that will stack positive factors, such as stronger connection, communication, and development of our community leaders, while offloading negative factors like isolation, hopelessness, and violence. These initiatives help build out a resource grid in our community that enables all of us to be safer and healthier. For more information, please visit the Tipping Point Grants website.

2018 Tipping Point Grant Process
This year Buncombe County‘s Tipping Point Grants will be awarded for $5,000 per project. In addition to receiving grant applications for new community initiatives and projects, we invite community members to serve on the Tipping Point Review Team.

Who is eligible for a Tipping Point Grant?
These grants are targeted to ordinary citizens and neighbors. Applications must be from individuals or groups that have come together around a common vision. Previous recipients are not eligible to re-apply for a continuation or expansion of a project. These funds are meant to build capacity, not sustain efforts. These funds are not targeted to nonprofit agencies as there are other avenues for nonprofits to apply for funding such as Buncombe County’s annual community development grants.

How do I apply for the Tipping Point Grant?
Grant applications are required. You may apply online at www.buncombecounty.org/apply or you can pick up hard copy applications at 200 College Street 3rd floor, Asheville NC 28801, reception desk. The deadline for submitting a grant is 5 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2018.

Optional grant writing workshops will be hosted by Buncombe County on Thursday, Sept. 27th, from 1-3 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 5-7 p.m. at 200 College St. These are free sessions and open to anyone. Applicants will be able to get support on proposal writing and will be able to leave the workshop with an application ready to go and/or submitted.
