Press release from the Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County:

Producers of the Mountain Song Festival present a $100,000 check as this year’s donation to the Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County. At left, representing the Festival, are John Felty with Shannon Whitworth and her husband, Woody Platt, and their 2-year-old son, Rivers. Receiving the donation are (from left) Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Candice Walsh, Board President Meredith Baldridge and Board Member Parker Platt, Woody’s brother. The festival was started 13 years ago to help raise funds for the club and its annual donation from proceeds has grown to this year’s record. The total is expected to reach $1 million next year. “We’re so grateful for their continuing support!” exclaimed Baldridge at the check presentation Tuesday. Woody Platt and Felty are co-producers of the event. Woody is a member of the Steep Canyon Rangers, the host band. Some 7,000 persons attended this year.
