Press release from the organizers:

BREVARD, NC — This Saturday, April 23rd is the Opening Day & Earth Day Celebration for the Transylvania Farmers’ Market! Head to downtown Brevard for a morning of fun for the whole family as the market resumes its regular season hours and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Everyone is invited for an enjoyable morning that includes a free seed giveaway (while supplies last) and drawings for market goodies at the Market Info booth, lots of great breakfast options, your favorite vendors and some great new vendors too, live music by the one and only Crooked Pine, and…a Best Beard Contest!

Save those winter beards, boys… we’re going to see who grew the best beard over the winter! Compete for prizes in two categories… “Mountain Man” for the wild and wooly and  “Dapper Dan” for the stylish gentlemen. Sign up at the market booth by 10:00 a.m. and judging and prizes will be awarded shortly thereafter.

Toes will be tapping all morning with music by Crooked Pine. A trio of performers who play traditional, original, and old time music from many influences, Crooked Pine is a local favorite and made up of Frank McConnell, Marion Boatwright, Craig Bannerman, and Troy Harrison.

With a focus on the bounty that Transylvania County has to offer, the Market has more than 60 vendors offering fresh, locally-grown produce, meat, poultry, trout, eggs, honey, cheeses, vinegars, mushrooms, plants, herbs, cut flowers, baked goods, jams & jellies, hot breakfast items, coffee, prepared foods, and a variety of handcrafted and artisan items from local producers. Throughout the season, the Market will host weekly music and events.

The Transylvania Farmers Market is located in Brevard, NC, just off East Main Street behind Comporium at the corner of Johnson and Jordan Streets. It is open on Saturdays through December 24 from 8am to 12pm. Winter market runs from December to April from 10am to 12pm.
