UNC Asheville ranked #8 for Top Public Schools among National Liberal Arts Colleges in U.S. News 2023 edition

Press release from UNC Asheville:

UNC Asheville has once again earned a top-10 ranking from U.S. News & World Report in its annual Best Colleges roundup, coming in at #8 for Top Public Schools in the National Liberal Arts Colleges category.

In recognition of its focus on access and academic and co-curricular opportunities, the University also received high marks in the Social Mobility category, landing at #60 in the nation.

“We are grateful to achieve consistent national recognition from U.S. News and World Report,” says Chancellor Nancy Cable, “that acknowledges the creative and innovative spirit of UNC Asheville students, faculty and staff and the energy, passion and intellect of every member of this remarkable academic community.”

“As a medium-sized public university in one of America’s greatest cities,” she adds, “our faculty, staff and students are fortunate to have such an ideal setting in Asheville and WNC to connect their curiosity and critical thinking. I’m proud of the many ways their efforts have made a powerful social impact and continue to receive such distinguished national attention.”

The University has received acknowledgment for its social mobility efforts each year since the category’s formation in 2019, which is based in part on the enrollment and graduation rates of Pell Grant-awarded students whose family income is generally less than $50,000 annually. UNC Asheville is the first university in the UNC System to address the national issue of student debt with its one-of-a-kind debt reduction program, The Asheville Trust.

Additionally, UNC Asheville earned spots on the Best Colleges lists for Business, Computer Science, and Engineering programs. Complete U.S. News results can be found online at usnews.com/best-colleges.

These impressive national rankings are in addition to other recent accolades awarded to UNC Asheville.

Last month, The Princeton Review published its round-up of The Best 388 Colleges, with UNC Asheville landing on several national top-25 lists, including Green Matters: Everyone Cares About Conservation; LGBTQ-Friendly; College City Get High Marks; Town-Gown Relations are Great; Most Politically Active Students; and Quality of Life.

UNC Asheville is now accepting applications for admission for spring and fall 2023, with a Nov. 15 deadline for Early Decision I. For more information about UNC Asheville, visit unca.edu/admission/visit.
