United Way to collect food and supplies for Henderson County students

Press release from the United Way of Henderson County:

The United Way of Henderson County is encouraging community members to help local students this fall by packing a school bus with food donations for MANNA’s Packs for Kids and school supply items for Henderson County Public Schools’ students. Donations will be collected on Friday, Aug. 18 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the opening gathering for the second annual Day of Action sponsored by Pardee/UNC Health Care. The gathering will take place at Hendersonville High School’s football stadium, where donations will be collected on a school bus. Needed school supplies and nonperishable food items are listed below.

School supplies:

  • 1” and 2” three-ring binders
  • Marbled cover composition books
  • Notebook paper
  • Blue and black pens
  • Highlighters
  • Lysol wipes
  • Glue sticks
  • Pencils

Nonperishable food items:

  • Soup/chili
  • Canned pasta: Spaghetti O’s, ravioli, etc.
  • Beans franks
  • Mac & cheese
  • Canned items: vegetables, beans
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Dinner mixes: Hamburger Helper
  • Healthy snacks
  • Cereal/granola bars
  • Fruit/applesauce cups
  • Jell-O or pudding cups
  • Crackers: graham, animal, etc.
  • Dried fruit pouches
  • Individual-serving cereal
  • Beverages: milk (shelf-stable UHT boxes), juice boxes (100% juice only)

After the event, approximately 500 volunteers will disperse to complete half-day service projects at 22 local schools. These donations and the work that volunteers will complete at the schools that day will create positive change at each school and throughout our community.
