Press Release from AARP North Carolina:

AARP in the Mountain Region is presenting two free November events for family caregivers to learn, celebrate and take a break.

On Wednesday, November 9, from noon until 1 p.m. at the Area Agency on Aging, Land of Sky Regional Council, 339 New Leicester Hwy, in Asheville, AARP will present a free “Prepare to Care” workshop in partnership with LGBT Elder Advocates of WNC. The workshop, with a special focus on LGBT caregivers and families, includes information on how to have vital conversations with older family members, organize important documents, assess your loved one’s needs and locate important resources. It provides simple, straightforward information and checklists that help guide family conversations to make caregiving easier.

On Thursday, November 10, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Asheville, family caregivers will have the opportunity to celebrate with guest lectures, music, lunch and a play all in appreciation of the hard work they do. The celebration is being co-sponsored by AARP and the Family Caregiver Support Program at Land of Sky Regional Council. There is no cost to attend these events, but registration is required.
