USA Today covers WE DO campaign

From USA Today:

MARSHALL, N.C. — Two women, hoping that a county official here would issue them a marriage license as an act of conscience, were denied the document for a second time Wednesday.

North Carolina law prohibits same-sex marriages here and in 36 other states, but Amanda Hilty and Loraine Allen and their supporters consider the laws immoral and unjust.

“I had really hoped and I had prayed that you would stand up with us today from one human to another,” Hilty said to Susan Rector, Madison County register of deeds, after she would not issue a marriage license. “I realize that you’re just doing what you feel you need to do and I respect that. I can’t say that I understand or that I agree.”
