Vehicle strikes Hendersonville Applebee’s during evacuation

Press Release

Hendersonville Fire Department

Hendersonville Fire Department was dispatched shortly after noon on Sunday to a smoke investigation at Applebee’s Restaurant on Four Season’s Boulevard. Upon arrival firefighters found that a kitchen ventilation hood fan was not operating properly and it was shut down. Due to safety reasons the restaurant was evacuated and closed while the manager had a technician en route to repair the hood fan.

While the restaurant was being evacuated a driver entered the parking lot of Applebee’s and drove into the building. The vehicle struck the exterior of the building causing structural damage. Firefighters were inside the restaurant approximately 6 feet from the point of impact by the vehicle and witnessed the vehicle lose control. Firefighters immediately finished removing all occupants from the building and provided emergency medical care to the driver of the vehicle while they awaited EMS arrival. The driver was the only one in the vehicle and was transported to Pardee Hospital to be evaluated. There were no other injuries.

A Henderson County Building Inspector was called to the scene to evaluate the damage to the building. The area the vehicle impacted was deemed unsafe and was roped off. The unaffected area was permitted safe to use once the restaurant reopened.
