Violinist with synesthesia gives a talk and demo at Asheville Music School, May 18

Press release:

In conjunction with her performance at Diana Wortham Theatre the following night, violinist Kelly Hall-Tompkins will be giving a free talk/demo at Asheville Music School at 5:30 PM on Thursday May 18. Kelly is a dynamic, engaging speaker, who has the gift of synesthesia – the ability to perceive sound as color. She will speak about how this affects her as an artist. Kelly will also talk about becoming a musician, practicing, and performing.

Acclaimed by the New York Times as “the versatile violinist who makes the music come alive,” and for her “tonal mastery” (BBC Music Magazine), and “searing intensity” (American Record Guide), Kelly Hall-Tompkins is one of New York City’s most in-demand violinists.

For Kelly’s main stage performance at Diana Wortham Theatre on May 19, she will be joined by soloist and chamber musician Craig Ketter, a leading pianist of his generation. Ketter performs with powerful sonority, a style that has garnered international renown since his first solo recital at the age of ten. Together, Ketter and Hall-Tompkins bring a whirlwind performance of classical and modern tastes delivered by musicians often referred to as “ones to watch” of their generation.
