Weather-related fatal accident closes U.S. Highway 176 between Saluda and Tryon

Media advisory from the American Red Cross on behalf of Marche Pittman, Polk County Manager:

There has been a traffic accident on US HWY 176, involving a car and a tree which produced two fatalities. The investigation is being handled by the NC State Highway Patrol 1(800) 445-1772. US HWY 176 is now shut down between Thomson Road in Saluda and Harmon Field Road in Tryon. Please avoid this area because travel has become dangerous.

Weather models have added flash flood watches for our area through Wednesday of this week.
