Western Carolina Veterinary Surgery attains high level of veterinary excellence

Press release

From Western Carolina Veterinary Surgery:

ARDEN, NC— Western Carolina Veterinary Surgery has achieved the highest level of veterinary excellence following a thorough evaluation by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Western Carolina Veterinary Surgery earned AAHA referral accreditation after a rigorous review of the hospital’s patient care, protocols, medical equipment, facility and client service.

AAHA is the only organization in the United States and Canada that accredits companion animal hospitals based on standards that go above and beyond state regulations. Unlike human hospitals, animal hospitals are not required to be accredited. Established in 1933, the Association is well-known for its leadership in the profession and its high standards for veterinary practices and pet health care. The AAHA Standards of Accreditation, viewed as the standard of veterinary excellence, contain more than 900 individual standards.

“AAHA believes the success of a veterinary practice depends on the entire team pulling together to provide top-notch care for pets and their people,” said Mike Cavanaugh, DVM, DABVP, AAHA chief executive officer. “Western Carolina Veterinary Surgery has high-performing veterinary teams who are passionate about veterinary excellence.”

Accredited referral practices work in collaboration with primary care veterinarians to provide specialty services for pets in need of specialized care. The association first began accrediting referral, or specialty, practices in 2008. Each specialty service in a referral hospital is considered for accreditation separately, and requires a board-certified specialist in each specialty.

Western Carolina Veterinary Surgery believes in providing state-of-the-art care for its patients and nurturing the human-animal bond.

Only the top small animal hospitals in the United States and Canada have achieved accreditation by the association. To maintain accredited status, Western Carolina Veterinary Surgery must continue to be evaluated regularly by AAHA.
