YWCA of Asheville celebrates 110 year anniversary at UNC Asheville campus May 11

From the YWCA of Asheville:

YWCA of Asheville Celebrates 110 Years Proudly serving our community from 1907 – 2017

ASHEVILLE, NC – The YWCA of Asheville invites the community to join us for our 110th Anniversary Celebration on Thursday, May 11 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the UNC-Asheville Lipinsky Auditorium. This celebration serves to honor those who have been a part of the YWCA of Asheville’s rich history, highlight those currently making a difference and share a vision for our future. The event will include a reception and the program will showcase our partnership with UNC-Asheville’s History Department and Ramsey Library Special Collections.

Representatives from UNC-Asheville Ramsey Library Special Collections will be presenting on their efforts to preserve and enhance YWCA historic photographs and make the YWCA archives more accessible to the community. Many of newly archived YWCA photos will be on display throughout the reception and as part of the program.

UNC-Asheville students in the “African American History: 1865 – Present” class also collaborated with the YWCA creating “digital storyboards” from interviews with members of the YWCA community. During the 110th Anniversary Celebration, we will be highlighting themes and stories captured during these oral history interviews.

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided during the reception. Parking is available on UNC Asheville’s campus.
