According to a press release, New Belgium’s 21-city Clips Beer & Film Tour raised some $139,524 for charities across the nation and drew more than 20,000 guests. The outdoor film and beer-tasting event, which stopped in Asheville on Friday, Sept. 5, raised $5,717 locally with attendance by approximately 1,400 individuals. Asheville’s average waste diversion rate was 77 percent, falling just below the aggregate average of 80 percent. The table below compares these figures from 2012 to present.

“The rain and occasional lightning just before and at the start of Clips that night had an impact on fundraising efforts,” said Susanne Hackett, community relations specialist for New Belgium in Asheville. “The rain delay gave people less time to purchase beer and raffle tickets to support Asheville On Bikes. All in all, we were impressed with the number of Ashevilleans who came out to take it all in despite the elements.”

New Belgium’s beer tents were also organized differently this year, which may have had an impact on beer sales. In 2013, attendees queued in about a dozen lines, each leading to a separate beer tent. In 2014, organizers consolidated the service process to include one main beer line and an auxiliary line for sour beer.

Film submissions for the 2015 tour open in January.

Asheville on Bikes is a charity cause? Thank you New Belgium for helping Mike on a Bike with a grand total of $5,717. Hey, love the new bike lane up Haywood Road, but motor vehickals are still following the old center line in the road, thereby wasting about three feet of space in the MIDDLE of the road. Well done folks. Of course Mike on a Bike can’t criticize the effort now can he?

As winter sets in, and all but the hardcore sprocket jocks start putting away their bikes for the season, New Belgium goes all Kardashian with a $5K donation to Mike on a Bike. Yeah, to hell with Meals on Wheels or Eblen Charities!
    What do we want?!
    BIKES!!!
    When do we want them?!
    BEER!!!

  3. It’s great to be working with New Belgium Brewery and so many other local organizations and businesses to advance our transportation options. On Tuesday, Dec. 15 Greenlife and Whole Foods donates 5% of all sales to Asheville on Bikes at both locations. Let’s work together and roll forward.
