Food news to go: Short-attention-span edition

There’s a full plate of news in Asheville’s food scene — as usual. Here’s an update for those with very short attention spans:

Chocolate Gems has opened at 25 Broadway in downtown Asheville. Go try some of their great house-made gelato before it gets too cold.

Also, Storm Rhum Bar has a new beat-the-Monday-blues deal that we love: A huge, house-ground, all-natural beef burger and a pint of local brew for $10, every Monday.

Asheville’s Twisted Crêpe is still doing brisk business, according to the owners. The business, however, is up for sale as a turnkey operation.

Asheville Independent Restaurants announces details of this year’s Taste of Asheville, the group’s premiere fundraising event at The Venue downtown.

And, as many of you already know, Asheville is on New Belgium Brewing’s shortlist of cities in which to expand operations. Here’s some of the latest, and also look for an expanded news piece in this week’s print edition.

Looking ahead to next month, here are several great food/wine/beer-related events for you:

On Tuesday, Oct. 4, chef Drew Maykuth from The Admiral and chef Brian Canipelli of Cucina 24 cook an al fresco dinner at the West Asheville Tailgate Market. The Autumn Harvest Sunset Supper is from 7 until 10 p.m. Tickets cost $25 and are available here. ***UPDATE*** Tickets are now sold out.

On Wednesday, Oct. 5, join the Weinhaus at South Asheville’s Chef Mo’s for a five-course wine dinner in the private dining room. Chef Mo’s is located at 900 Hendersonville Road in Suite 201. Cost for the event is $65, dinner begins at 7 p.m. Call the Weinhaus at 254-6453 for reservations and more details.

Not enough wine for you? On Thursday, Oct. 6, join the Wine Studio of Asheville for Wine 101, a crash course in some of the major wine varieties of the world. Six tastes for just $10, 7-9 p.m. Registration and more info here.

Prefer beer? Asheville Oktoberfest takes over Wall Street in downtown Asheville on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Or maybe you prefer altruism and barbecue to street drinking? Try the Forget-Me-Not Jam (also on October 8) a benefit for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, at Moe’s Original Bar-B-Que on 4 Sweeten Creek Road. Event is from 4 until 9 p.m. Info here.

Ready for your schmear? The HardLox Festival, Asheville’s Jewish-food and -heritage festival, takes place at Pack Square on Sunday, Oct 16 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. More info here.

On Thursday, Oct. 13, get a “Taste of Local” at Asheville Ingles, Tunnel Road, featuring local vendors and farmers whose products are sold at Ingles as well as a cooking demo from chef Adam Hayes of the Red Stag at the Grand Bohemian. 3 until 6 p.m.

Short attention span addition? Looks like your copy editor is the one with the short attention span.

  2. The Trolls Troll

or maybe I’m missing the point of “short attention span…” thereby making the headline somewhat clever.
