What’s for dinner: local options for Thanksgiving revelry

Have family or guests coming to town but no time to cook? Why not order your Thanksgiving dinner to go? Several local restaurants will prepare complete dinners, or individual side dishes with enough for the whole family. Be sure to call ahead to place your order and arrange pick-up.

Why not get a jump on the Thanksgiving holiday and head out the day before? Most restaurants will be open on Thanksgiving Eve. Here are some special events happening Wednesday, Nov. 27:

Haywood Street Congregation will host a full Thanksgiving dinner Wednesday, Nov. 27, 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., open to all members of the community. Three seatings: 10:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and noon. No reservations required.

Plant will serve Thanksgiving dinner Wednesday, Nov. 27, 5 p.m.- 9 p.m., $35/person, proceeds to benefit Animal Haven. Full menu: http://plantisfood.com/, 828-258-7500

Nothing compares to a feast on Thanksgiving Day — without any dishes to clean up! If you and your family plan to eat out on the holiday, it’s a good idea to make reservations as soon as possible. Here are a few suggestions:

Roux: 1–8 p.m., Thanksgiving buffet with many gluten free choices, $33 adults,  $15 children 12 and younger. Reservations: 828-209-2715.

Biltmore Estate Restaurants: (Requires estate admission ticket or 12-month pass to dine)

— Bistro: 11 a.m.- 8 p.m. Gourmet three-course prix fixe menu $55/person, plus limited a la carte. 828-225-6230. Reservations highly recommended.
— Stable Café: 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.A la carte menu with blend of most popular lunch menu items, plus a number of holiday offerings. Best option if you tour Biltmore on — Thanksgiving and don’t have a reservation. 828-225-6370

There are a couple benefits and community dinners taking place on Thanksgiving Day:

Fig Bistro: Thanksgiving Day Benefit, Nov. 28 11 a.m.- 5 p.m.. Diners will be encouraged to donate to the FIG Fund with 100 percent of the proceeds to benefit Homeward Bound’s Room in the Inn program, a community-driven initiative that partners with local faith communities to provide shelter for homeless women as they work towards securing permanent housing. Space is limited and reservations are required. 828-277-0889

Blue Mountain Pizza: Community Thanksgiving dinner, noon-3 p.m.. The whole Weaverville Community participates, even cooking the turkeys at home because they do not fit into the pizza ovens. Volunteers serve the buffet style meal, no reservations needed, free.
