Park it: Visits to the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte just got a little more expensive. Beginning March 24, the attraction will charge a daily parking fee of $5 per car. But here’s the good news: Parking passes also entitle their holders to a $5 discount off purchases of $25 or more at the USNWC Outfitter’s Store, or carbo-loading in the form of a free serving of cobbler (with the purchase of a meal) in the center’s Eddy Restaurant and Bar. Annual parking passes are available for $35. For more information, visit the center’s Web site (www.usnwc.org) or call (704) 391-3900.

Sprucing up the place: Asheville’s Mountain Sports Festival has a new look and a new logo. The makeover, courtesy of Scully Designs of Asheville, was revealed last month at the event Web site (www.mountainsportsfestival.com). This year’s festival will again be held at Carrier Park on Amboy Road, May 30 to June 1. For more information, call organizer Christen McNamara with Asheville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts at 251-4029.

Sports on the silver screen: The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour (www.banffcentre.ca) returns to the neighborhood later this month. Brevard College hosts the festival on March 14 and 15, and Appalachian State University on April 10, 11 and 12. For information and tickets for the Brevard appearance call 884-8107. For ASU, call 262-2475.
