Chocolat

Movie Information

The Hendersonville Film Society will show Chocolat at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, in the Smoky Mountain Theater at Lake Pointe Landing Retirement Community (behind Epic Cinemas), 333 Thompson St., Hendersonville.
Score:

Genre: Romance/Comedy/Fantasy
Director: Lasse Hallström
Starring: Juliette Binoche, Lena Olin, Johnny Depp, Judi Dench, Alfred Molina
Rated: PG-13

Since it played here on its original release at Christmas 2000, Lasse Hallström’s Chocolat has cropped back up on local screens at least twice—maybe more. Well, it’s back again, because the Hendersonville Film Society is doing an “A to Z” theme this month and wanted something that began with a “c.” Fair enough. It’s a good choice, but it’s also a choice I’m written out on. Couldn’t they have picked Caligula (1979)? That starts with a “c,” too, and it would give me an excuse to see it. Actually it didn’t have to start with a “C” (only A and Z are the important ones), CHOCOLAT was on the short list and that’s why it was selected.

I can’t believe you haven’t seen CALIGULA. Being a Peter O’Toole fan I thought you would been there on opening day.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, Chocolat is a fine movie. I just don’t need to write about it again — or probably watch it again any time soon.

I don’t recall it opening anywhere near where I was. Truth to tell, there are quite a few O’Toole movies I’ve missed.
