Mountain Xpress and Sherwood’s Music are partnering to showcase local musicians through a series of stripped-down performances for the web. This week songwriter Hannah Kaminer performs “Acre by Acre.”
A native of WNC, Kaminer grew up in Buncombe and Yancey counties listening to mountain and bluegrass tunes that would later inspire her own songwriting. Though she’s been singing all her life, Kaminer has only recently began performing in public. In December 2013, she was voted both the Crowd Favorite and Grand Prize Winner at Asheville’s All-Star Brown Bag Singer-Songwriter competition — something the admittedly shy Kamier says was a big step forward.
This summer, Kaminer will head to Echo Mountain to record her first album. Until then, you can also check out her EP, “Savings & Loan,” which Kaminer refers to as “The Living Room Recordings EP,” as it was recorded in the homes of her family and friends. You can also hear her work on Soundcloud.
