Video premiere: “Up On a Mountain (Well, Well, Well)” by Heather Taylor

Last November, singer-songwriter Heather Taylor won the latest round of the Brown Bag Songwriting Competition. Her prize included studio time at Echo Mountain Recording, where she’s been working on her upcoming album, Undercurrents. From those sessions comes her first single.

“Inspired by the rich storytelling culture of Appalachia, ‘Up On a Mountain’ is an ode to preservation,” says a press release for the song. “Tracked live to capture the organic and textural qualities of Taylor’s songwriting, ‘Up On a Mountain’ features Taylor (vocals/octave mandolin), Sean Jerome (slide guitar) and Grammy Award winning producer Julian Dreyer (engineering/mixing).”

Taylor (who is also an Xpress staffer) will celebrate the video release with a performance at Asheville Music Hall on Thursday, May 31. Lost Dog Street Band headlines the 9 p.m. show. $8 advance/$10 at the door.
