Text of proclamation honoring Karen Cragnolin:
WHEREAS, Karen Cragnolin made significant contributions to Asheville and it is fitting and proper to honor her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Karen Cragnolin served for over 30 years as Director of RiverLink; and she dedicated her career in Asheville to the beautification and environmental stewardship of the region; and
WHEREAS, Karen Cragnolin conserved wetlands, steep slopes, and public access; and she restored local streams to reduce erosion and sedimentation; and
WHEREAS, Karen Cragnolin empowered thousands of volunteers to improve watershed health; and she partnered with the community to implement stormwater best management practices to improve water quality; and through numerous programs she taught students about watershed health; and
WHEREAS, Karen Cragnolin helped create public parks and greenspace including Jean Webb Park, French Broad River Park, Carrier Park, Karen Cragnolin Park, and RiverLink Sculpture and Performance Plaza.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Esther E. Manheimer, Mayor of the City of Asheville, do hereby proclaim September 6, 2016 as
Karen Cragnolin Day
in the City of Asheville and hereby recognize her for 30 years of leadership at RiverLink and for her service to the citizens of Asheville.
