Haywood Road development on the way

Construction on the Village at Haywood, a high-density, mixed-used development on the former site of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church more than two years in the making, is scheduled to begin July 21.

Rick Dwyer of Greenstone Builders bought out developer Kevin Crump earlier this year. Dwyer said he’s made some changes to the design, which, he says, will fit the neighborhood.

“I think we’re not trying to change the flavor of West Asheville,” he says. “It will have Arts and Crafts elements, but I would describe it was urban chic. It’s going to be energy efficient and we’re going to make it workforce affordable.” The housing units will range in price from $140,000 to $240,000.

Paul Ellis, a realtor with Keller Williams who is selling the project, says the goal is to put together a quality, affordable, energy-efficient project that “will boost West Asheville’s economy.”

The first phase of the urban village will feature a mix of residential and office space. Three three-story buildings, each with 3,200 square feet of office space and seven residential units, will front Haywood Road. Townhouses, single-family homes and bungalows will extend back into the adjacent residential neighborhood.

Dwyer says construction will feature a number of environmentally friendly elements, including bamboo floors, Energy Star-rated appliances, energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, paints low in volatile organic compounds and the use of cisterns to capture rainwater for landscaping. Dwyer says he’ll seek HealthyBuilt-home certification.

The Village at Haywood will be Greenstone Builders’ first mixed-use development, says Dwyer, who aims to make it a “showcase.”

what will the association fee be per month? Is there a parking garage? Are the office spaces for retail as well as office, meaning service business such as spa? When is this project finished? Please send details and location thank-you Walter and Cheryl Thezan
