Arts For Life

Artwork by an adolescent patient. Arts For Life is a nonprofit that brings the arts to young patients battling cancer and other serious illnesses, improving the lives and healthcare experiences of hundreds of children and adolescents each year by teaching visual arts, music and creative writing. Recently a young boy undergoing chemotherapy who sat working at Arts For Life’s art table in a pediatric hematology oncology clinic created pictures of animals using paint, glitter and glue. As he added whiskers and a tail to his creature he looked up at his Arts For Life teacher and said, “I think I’m really good at this. Can we do it again next week?” He left the clinic smiling that day for the first time since he began coming for treatments. Info: 712-8120 or www.theartsforlife.org.
