Xpress’ Mackensy Lunsford wins 1st place in annual alt-weekly awards

Who knew that writing about how everything is better with butter — even termite larvae — would earn Mountain Xpress food writer Mackensy Lunsford acclaim?

Lunsford claimed first place in the 2012 Altweekly Awards for this trio of food pieces:

"Mud Fish and Menudo"
"The Sorcerer's Apprentice"
"Everything's Better with Butter"

Lunsford earned her first Altweekly Award in 2007, taking second place for food writing. This year, she beat out another North Carolina writer — the Independent Weekly’s Emily Wallace, who submitted “The Man who Designed the Oreo Cookie" and "A Brief History of Pimento Cheese."
