Upcoming political forums

To get a handle on what the candidates are saying — and for an opportunity to ask your own questions on pertinent issues — check out the following political forums, to be held in the Asheville area in the coming weeks:

• Oct. 19: Council of Independent Business Owners “Power Lunch”; noon; Stephens-Lee Community Center; candidates for state legislature.

• Oct. 19: Taxpayers for Accountable Government; 7-9 p.m.; West Asheville Community Center; candidates for state legislature; Charles Taylor, 11th District congressional candidate.

• Oct. 23: League of Women Voters; 7-9 p.m.; Temple Beth Ha-Tephila (43 N. Liberty St.); candidates for state Senate District 28 and House District 51.

• Oct. 26: Council of Independent Business Owners “Power Lunch”; noon; Stephens-Lee Community Center; candidates for Buncombe County Board of Commissioners. (NEED TO VERIFY WHETHER THIS IS ON OCT. 25 or 26 — CONFLICTING REPORTS)

• Oct. 26: League of Women Voters; 6:30-8:30 p.m.; Lake View Center in Black Mountain; candidates for Buncombe County Board of Commissioners (6:30-7:30 p.m.); debate between candidates for Chairman of Buncombe County Board of Commissioners (7:30-8:30 p.m.).

• Oct. 30: League of Women Voters; 7-9 p.m.; Valley Springs Middle School (224 Long Shoals Road); candidates for Board of Education.

• Nov. 2: Libertarian candidates forum, 7-10 p.m., Forum at Pack Place.
