Police Chief William Hogan will present his recommendations concerning a proposed citizen’s police-oversight board, and Council members will receive an update on an outside consultant’s evaluation of the Asheville Design Center’s proposed alignment of the Interstate 26 connector at their Tuesday, Jan. 15, meeting.
Some early predictions based on staff memos in the Council’s agenda packet: Hogan will bear witness that a citizen-oversight board is not really needed. Further, proponents of the ADC’s design vision will hear a lot that they like — except for a proposed double-decker bridge that likely won’t pass muster with state transportation officials.
Those two issues, plus a slew of public hearings, will dominate the meeting. Those hearings will consider:
• A conditional-use permit for Governor’s View Cottages, located at 190 and 180 Governor’s View Road, for the development of 14 single-family residences.
• A rezoning of an area including properties located on or near Merrimon Avenue from Community Business I and II, Community Business I and II Conditional Use Zoning, Neighborhood Corridor District Conditional Zoning, and Highway Business Districts to Mixed Use District.
• An amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance relating to the Creation of a Mixed Use District.
• An amendment to the Unified Development Ordinance to Provide for Development Standards for Parking Garages.

we have a history of corruption by officials here. if a police officer says there’s no need to examine them, odds are he’s corrupt as well. sorry.
