Asheville City Council preview: July 15 meeting

At its July 15 work session, City Council will discuss a host of controversial topics.

At the top of the heap is the proposed Parkside development envisioned by developer Stewart Coleman. He will present his latest plans for the proposed condo project near City Hall as Council delves into the future development of City/County Plaza.

That area of downtown will also receive a second dose of scrutiny as it hears an update on the delayed construction of Pack Square Park.

Rounding out the meeting will be a report on citizen oversight of the Asheville Police Department, an update on the Veterans Memorial at Memorial Stadium, a discussion of the possibility of the Asheville Police Department’s involvement in a federal illegal-immigration-enforcement program, and selecting interviewees for placement on more than a dozen city boards and commissions.

The full agenda and background documents can be found here.

The meeting will take place Tuesday, July 15 at 3 p.m. in Council chambers on the second floor of City Hall. The action can also be viewed live on the city government TV channel (Charter Cable 11).

There will be a Stop Parkside rally that day at 4:30. There is no public comment allowed at the work session, but we can be there outside to voice our opinion. The rally will be under the Magnolia tree rain or shine. There will be speakers, music, and peaches and watermelon.
