Asheville City Council preview: Live, from City Hall!

Asheville City Council will, at its meeting tomorrow, grapple with stimulus funds and state legislation. This will also be the first meeting where interested citizens can watch live, via the Internet.

“On April 13, the city of Asheville will premier two new high-tech enhancements for Asheville City Council formal meetings,” a city press release announced today. “Starting Tuesday, Council meetings will be streamed live via webcast, and meeting attendees will find more access to wireless internet while in Council chambers.”

Those interested can watch the meeting live here.

And at that meeting, Council will decide on what legislation it will request the General Assembly to enact, including clarifying Asheville’s boundary with Woodfin. It will also vote on an agreement for managing Pack Square Park and an array of fee increases (including a 5 percent water-rate increase) and increasing the cost of some transit passes. The increases are projected to bring in $218,000 in additional revenue.

Council meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 13 on the second floor of City Hall.

  1. Pack Place

Pack Place is an independent non-profit organization on Pack Square. We believe that the article intended to indicate that Council will vote on an agreement for managing Pack Square or Pack Square Park… not Pack Place (the cultural center that is home to the Asheville Art Museum, Colburn Earth Science Museum, Diana Wortham Theatre, the Health Adventure and YMI Cultural Center).

I believe Pack Place’s comment is correct. Let’s let staff reporter David Forbes make the correction.
