Limited bus service resumes, city services reduced, meetings canceled UPDATED 3 PM

As city of Asheville crews begin to plow secondary roads, bus service resumes on limited routes, Many facilities are closed today or working on reduced hours. The Asheville City Council meeting for today is also canceled.

“With road conditions improving, Asheville Transit be able to provide limited bus service this afternoon,” the announcement reads. “Service began at 1 p.m. and the last runs will leave the station at 5 p.m.”

The limited routes are:

Rt 1 Haywood Road to Patton Avenue. (turning around at Goodwill parking lot)

Rt 2 Merrimon Ave. to Beaverdam Road. (turning around at Ingles parking lot)

Rt 8 Biltmore Ave. to at Peachtree Road. (turning around at Lighthouse parking lot)

Rt 15 Route modified to serve Patton Ave. and Leicester Highway to Elaida Home Road.

Rt 26 Route modified to serve Tunnel Road to the VA Hospital.

“With most primary roads in fair condition, Public Works is transitioning to secondary roads with hopes of reaching many residential, or tertiary, streets by the end of the day,” a city announcement from earlier today regarding road conditions reads.

The Asheville City Council meeting scheduled for tonight is canceled, with agenda items moved to the Jan. 25 meeting.

Garbage and recycling service for today are also canceled.

In addition, “all city Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts facilities including the Asheville Municipal Golf Course, WNC Nature Center, Food Lion Skate Park, Riverside Cemetery, recreation centers and senior centers will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 11.  PRCA administrative offices will also be closed.  Recreation programs scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 11 are cancelled.”

City Hall, however, opened at 10 a.m., conditions allowing.

Free downtown parking in all garages is extended until at least 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12.
