Can’t make the last candidate forum before primary day? Listen live at Asheville FM

If you can’t make tonight’s forum for candidates seeking seats on Asheville City Council, the grassroots radio station Asheville FM plans to broadcast live audio of the forum from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the Web. Click here to listen.

Candidates running for three open seats on City Council, as well as the mayor’s seat, have been invited to the forum at the Hilton Asheville in Biltmore Park. The Rotary Club Asheville South is hosting the forum, which will be preceded by a candidate meet-and-greet.

Tuesday’s primary election will cut down the field of candidates to six people running for three open seats on City Council, and two candidates vying to be mayor. The candidates running for City Council are: Cecil Bothwell, Larry Chastain, Ryan Croft, J. Neal Jackson, Esther Manheimer, Councilmen Kelly Miller and Carl Mumpower, Cesar Romero and Gordon Smith. Candidate Jenny Bowen, whose name will appear on the ballot, has said she has withdrawn from the race. Councilwoman Robin Cape, who decided late to seek re-election, will not appear on the primary ballot but is running an active write-in campaign for the Nov. 3 general election. The candidates running for mayor are incumbent Mayor Terry Bellamy, Robert Edwards, Shad Marsh and Denise Pendleton.

Early voting in the election will continue into Saturday at the Buncombe County Board of Elections offices on College Street in downtown Asheville.

Check out the Mountain Xpress candidate questionnaire for detailed information about the candidates and where they stand on top issues in the race. And keep an eye on the Xpress Twitter feed here and here on Tuesday for up-to-the-minute coverage of primary election results.

Tim doesn’t understand that my campaign is designed to win a primary, or he just is too proud to admit that I will (most likely) do better than any of the Tea-baggers; who for all their bluster and self-righteousness couldn’t even be bothered to show up.

  2. Piffy!

The Peckian, Libertarian Tea Baggar Rand-tards wouldnt dare run for office, for fear of having to respond to public scrutiny, or having to face the fact that only a very small portion of the population would actually vote for them.

I would never vote for someone for a role as important as Mayor who resorts to such juvenile name calling in a public forum like this. Would you do that in a council session?

  4. shadmarsh

Actually the way Asheville city government is set up, the Mayor isn’t all that important. Here endth the civics lesson.

Really? Are you saying you wouldn’t love to see Brownie Newman get a Wedgie from Mayor Marsh?

  6. shadmarsh

I’m still a little confused about the name calling thing. He does know Tim isn’t running for mayor right?

  7. Piffy!

They why run? Sounds like a waste of time.

    Are you being serious? Ironic?

You really don’t see the point of an independent running against Bellemy? What about next election? The one after that?

And where did shad call anyone names, anyway?

  8. Piffy!

    Shad got Tea bagged

By Bellemy? the implications are bothersome and illogical.

I love how he admonishes me for the very same behavior he later exhibits. Must be a righty.

Diplomacy seems to have flown out the window with our elected officials. It helps get work done and the lack of it in present day politics is not doing any of us any good.

I may have been harsh – I now feel kind of bad – but that was my point. Please accept my humble apology.

The response to national disaster is awesome but it’s a damn shame that so many people take advantage of the negative situations.

I mean everytime there is an earthquake, a flood, an oil spill – there’s always a group of heartless people who rip off tax payers.

This is in response to reading that 4 of Oprah Winfreys “angels” got busted ripping off the system. Shame on them!
