Don’t burn, baby, burn

Attention pyromaniacs, bonfire builders, fire spinners or anyone out there torching a pile of rubbish: Now would be the time to put down your book of matches. A statewide burn ban has gone into effect.

Asheville Fire and Rescue has issued notice that due to extremely dry and hot conditions, open burning is more dangerous than usual, increasing the threat of wildfires. That means no open or outside burning of any kind is allowed — not even a campfire.

“Burning during a burn ban is a serious violation and punishable by fines and/or imprisonment,” the notice warns. “The time frame of a burn ban is from the day the ban is issued until it is lifted by the Fire-Rescue Chief.”

Now that you’ve been warned, don’t get toasted.

Before you comment

The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service.
