Early voting declines slightly as 1,171 have cast ballots in city primary

Early voting declined slightly from the last Asheville City Council primary, according to figures from the Buncombe County Board of Elections. This year, 1,171 citizens cast their ballots early. In the last primary, in 2009, 1,229 people voted early.

The last few municipal elections have seen declining turnout, both in the primary and general election. However, the 2009 primary did include a mayoral race and three Council seats, while this one includes three Council seats. Election day for the primary is tomorrow, Oct. 11, and voting locations may be found here.

Thank goodness Brownie, Cecil, and Gordon opened up all those extra voting sites to help with the overflow crowds.

What a crank you are, J! As you well know, there was one and only one site for early voting in the primary, at the Board of Elections office downtown. Had more early voting sites been open, no doubt there would have been more votes cast.
