H1N1 vaccine available to all at health department

The Buncombe County Health Center now has appointments available for anyone who wants the H1N1 vaccine, according to a Dec. 31 announcement.

Throughout flu season, the health center has, due to limited supplies, only offered the vaccine to certain populations (pregnant women, small children) most in danger of contracting it. On Dec. 12, the center held its first clinic open to all. Now, supplies have increased to the point where the vaccine can be offered to any who need it, for free. However, those with health insurance are requested to bring their card, according to the announcement.

Appointments are now available for anyone who would like to receive the H1N1 vaccine at the Buncombe County Health Center.  To make an appointment for anyone aged 6 months and above the public may call 259-3000.  There is no charge for the vaccine; however those who have insurance should take their card with them.

The most important reason for the general public to get the H1N1 vaccine is to protect others from getting it.  As more people are immunized, it is less likely for the virus to spread.  It is especially important that young adults and children be immunized against H1N1.
