I got you babe: Sonny Bono’s widow weds in Asheville

On Saturday, U.S. Rep. Connie Mack got married to Congresswoman Mary Bono in a private ceremony held at the Richmond Inn in Asheville, according to press reports.

Thirty-five members of the Mack and Bono families, including Mack’s children and parents, attended the ceremony. Bono’s father Clay Whitaker lives in Asheville, and a spokeswoman for Mack had said in November that’s why the town was selected for the marriage.

Mary Bono and Connie Mack dated for two years and they announced their engagement to the public on Sept. 7.

Bono is the widow of the late singer-turned-politician Sonny Bono, whose first wife was the singer and actress Cher. The second Mrs. Bono was first elected to Congress in 1998, after a special election was held to fill the seat left vacant by her late husband. Bono, who represents California’s 45th Congressional District, serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee.

Mack, 40, was elected to his second term in Congress in November 2006 to represent Florida’s 14th Congressional District. He is the son of the former U.S. Sen. Connie Mack and well-known cancer-prevention advocate Priscilla Mack, and grandson of the legendary Connie Mack, the manager and owner of baseball’s Philadelphia Athletics. Mack currently serves on three committees: Transportation and Infrastructure, Foreign Affairs, and Budget.

    Mary Bono wasn’t the “second” Mrs. Bono, she was the 4th. See below:

    I say “B.F.D.” Who cares? Is Asheville so celebrity smitten we have to brag about a 3rd tier married to-so-and-so?

    Hey Nam,

    I agree, the article is total fluff and I really could care less about how many times Sonny Bono was married!

    However, the comment is about accuracy in journalism. Any reporter with a shred of pride in their work would research such basic facts, which took about 5 seconds on the internet.

    If you’re going to bother to write a fluff piece, then at least get the boring facts correct.
