Into the Forums

The MountainX.com forum boarders follow the content of the paper and website with a focus that almost borders on the fanatical. After all, a goodly number of them are either directly or tangentially involved in the media in one form or other, and Xpress is the home team. So, when it was announced that three Xpress editorial staffers would be stepping down, it took mere moments for a thread to pop up about job opportunities. Clearly, there was a lot of interest in the few available positions.

But what if there were too many applicants? What if they were all really good? What if the only fair way to settle things was an old-fashioned, bare-knuckle dust up? You know, something along the lines of …

Given the high drama of the recent health care reform battle in Washington, it’s hardly surprising that the forums have been abuzz with debate—and even a little partisan bickering—over the impact of the legislation. But the health care reform endgame thread was more than just a discussion, it was a 19-page monster, with both sides of the debate making empassioned arguments.

Of course, it was hardly the only politically charged thread this week, with the demographics of the Tea Party movement, the constitutionality of the most recent set of U.S. Census questions and the American history of immigration all being popular topics.

Other popular threads from the last week include: The stevia-fueled rantings of internet phenomenon Dan Quinn; the theory that the best way to have a happy company is to fire unhappy workers; and the ongoing Lou Majors video art thread.

Don’t see a discussion about that burning topic you’d like to talk about? Why not start your own? All registered members of the MountainX.com have forum accounts, and if you aren’t a member, joining is easy — just click here.
