Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.

The comments section is here to provide a platform for civil dialogue on the issues we face together as a local community. Xpress is committed to offering this platform for all voices, but when the tone of the discussion gets nasty or strays off topic, we believe many people choose not to participate. Xpress editors are determined to moderate comments to ensure a constructive interchange is maintained. All comments judged not to be in keeping with the spirit of civil discourse will be removed and repeat violators will be banned. See here for our terms of service. Thank you for being part of this effort to promote respectful discussion.

  1. I should sign up for twitter to do this, right? Does this auto-load the tweets or do I have to reload the page?

If I have to reload the page, couldn’t you just add a meta-refresh?

Am I really this interested in the details? You bet.

  2. The proposal doesn’t *not* include public access, it’s just not the focus of the proposal.

There’s a few other tricky things to navigate in the proposal, though, and no one’s mentioned them yet.

  3. So…it could be a little bit community media, and a lot of future possibilities that may or may not be worthwhile to the community. Meanwhile the City & County is funding this new nebulous entity for approximately $100,000. over a three year period, as “seed money.” IF they can see the benefit, and a proposer can figure out what the hell the Cities really asking for. Meantime public access could be a part or maybe not….If not the PEG monies would be diverted into the City’s channel…..which sounds like what they have really wanted for some time.n Mismanagement just made it easy for them. If this is clear as mud…that was obviously the intent of City staff.

  4. The only firm way to figure out what they want, is get a copy of the meeting on DVD from Maggie Burleson. In addition to the City “seed money” there is also PEG money that is not clearly mentioned in this RFP….but is touched on during Bradley’s presentation and the subsequent Q & A.

  5. Why can’t they just put the thing online?

It’s not like I’m going to be in town next week.

Oh, wait. I might be. Do they hold copies at City Hall?
