Patriot Acts: Author/blogger Glenn Greenwald coming to UNCA

***UPDATE: According to reports, Greenwald’s appearance at UNCA has been canceled.***

Glenn Greenwald, author of the bestseller How would a Patriot Act? and columnist at the online magazine Salon, is coming to UNCA Thursday, Sept. 13, for a discussion on “Civil Rights and the Bush Administration.”

Greenwald’s presentation starts at 12:30 p.m. in the Humanities Lectures Hall. A former constitutional-law and civil-rights lawyer in New York, Greenwald got public attention beginning in 2005 for criticizing the Bush Administration’s moves on warrantless wiretapping and surveillance, as well as his frequent attacks on what he’s termed “the right-wing cult of contrived masculinity” and “the rigid pro-war ideology of the foreign policy community.” In addition to the Salon column, he’s also written for American Conservative, Slate, the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times.

Greenwald will also be the special guest at the weekly Drinking Liberally event at the Asheville Brewing Company at 7 p.m. the same day, where’ll he’ll sign copies of his latest book, A Tragic Legacy: How a Good vs. Evil Mentality Destroyed the Bush Presidency.
