Police investigating Merrimon bank robbery, suspect still at large

The Asheville Police Department is searching for a suspect in Thursday’s robbery of the First Citizens’ Bank on Merrimon Avenue.

The robbery occurred at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, and, according to an announcement from the APD, the “suspect demanded cash but did not display a weapon. He was last seen leaving the area in a black car of unknown make/model, heading up Edgewood Road toward Kimberly Avenue.”

As seen in the surveillance shot above, the robber was a man “wearing a black ball cap, dark jeans, a dark Adidas jacket and a white T-shirt. He had a medium build and may have also been wearing a dark wig.”

At this time, there’s no information on how much money was stolen from the bank. Police are advising anyone with information to call 252-1110 or Crime Stoppers at 255-5050.
