Protesters March Downtown

Around two dozen protesters marched downtown Friday afternoon, chanting slogans and carrying signs and banners.  Affiliated with the Occupy Asheville movement, the protest called for an end to mountaintop removal and other practices the protesters claimed were harmful to the environment.

It’s time to “spring” back into the public eye. The tents were not “Occupy,” in a singular sense. Occupy has been, and will continue to be, active. I look forward to helping address the water issue, corporate personhood, corporate greed, foreclosures, and many other issues which affect EVERYONE, regardless of political and ideological differences. I look forward to finding more ways to move forward and invite more participation in any number of ways by anyone who cares, not only about Asheville, but our country.

This brief bill is nothing new. Here is a summary:

“1/19/2011–Introduced. Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011 – Amends the federal criminal code to revise the prohibition against entering restricted federal buildings or grounds to impose criminal penalties on anyone who knowingly enters any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority. Defines “restricted buildings or grounds” as a posted, cordoned off, or otherwise restricted area of: (1) the White House or its grounds, or the Vice President’s official residence or its grounds; (2) a building or grounds where the President or other person protected by the Secret Service is or will be temporarily visiting; or (3) a building or grounds so restricted due to a special event of national significance.”

Interesting that you fail to mention that this Bill’s sponsor was conservative Republican Tom Rooney of Florida.

Oh, and are you complaining that the Occupy movement is clueless and shouldn’t protest at places the Prez or VP will be, or what?
