Put down your newspaper, turn off your computer and listen to the radio

On good days, Mountain Xpress is a good read on both the printed page and the Internet. Today, it’s going to be a good listen.

Matt Mittan, the host of Take a Stand! with Matt Mittan, is on a brief vacation, and he’s put Xpress on the mic today (Monday, Oct. 22) for the entirety of his talk show, which runs from 3 to 6 p.m. on 570 AM.

Our main topic: The “Best of WNC,” as derived from our annual reader survey, which is on the stands this week. We’ll talk to long-time winners, Xpress’ team of analysts and whoever wants to call in.

If that’s not enough reason to flip the switch on your radio, there’s more: We’ve scheduled an exclusive interview with Jake Frankel — the mystery man dubbed “best local sex symbol” in the survey.

Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.

I’m picturing a call-in show called, “This Is Why You’re Stupid”. That’s radio gold right there.

hmmmm…a radio show with Jason Bugg. Maybe that’s something “The Mountain” should look into doing.
