Video-a-Go-Go: The local video roundup

Chances are that if you’re a regular reader of Xpress, the idea of downtown street performers and drum circles isn’t a novelty for you. Further, I’d venture to guess that you’re not the type of person who dreams of living in an absurdly expensive mansion on the banks of Lake Lure, either. Well, vlogger victory4megan represents a different kind of mindset. She’s bemused by fire jugglers, dubious (yet curious) about drum circles and absolutely in love with the idea of getting rich and owning a fancy mansion on the lake. And through the magic of vlogging, we can see the world through her eyes for a few moments.

A good many videos were uploaded this week from the recent Lexington Avenue Arts & Fun Festival, and picking one to capture the spirit of the event was something of a challenge. So here’s a short, fun clip that’s fun for the whole family: bike jousting.

Speaking of LAAFF, one of the highlights of the festival is the tremendous amount of high-quality local music. For long-time local residents, a definite high point was the performance by the Blue Rags, a band that was from Asheville before being from Asheville was cool.

It’s hard not to be amazed by the natural world, isn’t it? You can be out walking in the woods outside of Asheville, just kind of exploring, and then run across something like this huge Cecropia moth caterpillar. And, in true human tradition, what do you do when you run across such a creature? Poke it to see what it does, obviously!

And lastly, we have something that will surely make Theremin purists irate, auto-tune haters indignant and people who don’t know what either of those two things are slightly bewildered. Everyone else will probably just shrug and/or groove.

Each week, dozens upon dozens of interesting local videos are uploaded to YouTube. It’s a lot to keep up with. Did we miss a particularly interesting, recently uploaded local video? Share it by leaving the videos URL (but not the embed code) in the comment fields below. Also, please mark it Not Work Safe if there’s any controversial content to the video.
