Want to talk about the Woodfin power plant?

On Saturday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m., a coalition of area residents calling themselves New Energy Paradigms will get together for an information session on the proposal to build a new power plant in Woodfin. The event, which goes until 2 p.m., will be held at the Weaverville library, a short drive from Woodfin.

At the last teach-in held on this topic, local clean-energy advocate Ned Doyle gave an overview of renewable energy alternatives to fossil fuel and pointed to language in N.C. state law that explicity requires the utilities commission to look at energy efficiency, conservation and demand-side management measures when considering the need for new power plants. Oil burning power plant
Don’t they realize how bad for America the plant would be? Much less, bad for Woodfin?
It is so backwards thinking to be installing a oil plant. How about using Methane from the existing dump? WAY less travel time for the fuel…..The issue needs to be addressed again and more public input. I thought it was called PROGRESS Energy, why use a outdated (and foriegn) fuel?

    Another idea
How about conservation of existing electricity? The site in question has some solar potential, but not as much as putting panels on existing roofs and feeding it back into the grid. I’m sure many A-villians will allow their roofs for use for a dollar a yr. lease! Then I will pay to put nothing but a park on the river property for 10 times what Progress was going to pay.
Progress can make nothing on conservation, so of course they will not tout that….
The river site does not lend itself to wind either, so maybe pay a little to some ridge top developers to add wind up there, that will augment peak loads at night, coupled with the solar for daytime peaks.
There has to be WAY more thinking, the technology is out there, and Progress needs to step up to the plate and use some alternatives. They could even charge for it if they install it…..
Do Not Allow them to add more to our energy INsecurity.
If they do a diesel plant, chances are they will have to switch to Biodiesel soon, anyway, to fuel it as the Chaves’s and Saudi’s squeeze America’s oil supply more.
