Ha! One day these luxury bee hotels will bee like the Battery Park Hotel and The Manor were in the 70s: cheap housing for winos, prostitutes., and low income folks. Wait til baby boomers’ money fails. It will be epic!

I think what you meant to say was

Wait til Baby Boomers complete their routing of this country for bleeding it dry, bankrupting Social Security after complaining about so called American socialism, yet still complain about how Wall St. buys elections after willingly subscribing to that ideology under Reagan and still have the utter gall to say
“Man, it was different in the 60’s….We made a real difference.” .

I will welcome the winos, ladies of the evening and (gasp) the poors at that point. It’ll sound something like-(as voiced by Tom Waits or a similar 3 pack a day smoker)

“Pull up a milk crate my friend, take a seat, have a nip of Night Train, and tell me what life was like before we had to sell a kidney
to pay rent in this mean ol town. ”

“You know, the outta town hoteliers say we the folks who live here are the real problem, and that we should be replaced by robots or just learn to not eat.
I used to get annoyed when I heard that, but now that they’ve pushed us workin folks who work in Asheville out to Cumberland County for affordable housing in order to commute, well, the view at night is amazing from the high rise luxury hotels that illuminate my back yard at night . ”

“Who was I to ever doubt the wisdom of the completely unregulated free market economy? Ahem, hey, are you gonna eat that?
Mmmm, I do love me some drumstick. Mmmm, local grown Pritchard Park rat. Boss man down at the MaireAntoinetteCasino(andHotel) says we can live right here in the park instead of takin the bus from Fayettville if we want to and have all the free food we like and he won’t even charge us for rent! It feels nice to have an employer who really cares about me. ”

“Oh yea, thanks for the Night Train, brother. Man, I used to hear some crazy stories from an old timer- he was way up there, prob’ly about 40 years old or so. He used to talk, not that I believe him, you know how those old folks talk, anyway, he was saying you used to could eat 2 meals a day if you budgeted your money here in town, and even afford a, uh, whatdya call it, a roof over your head. Crazy talk, that’s all it is.”

“Still, I wonder if there’s any truth to all those old stories?’…

Tune in next week for pt 2

wow boatrocker you write pretty well…maybe you should start writing over at AshevilleUnreported dot c o m
the Battery Park Apts and the Vanderbilt Apts downtown both heavily funded by taxpayer funded paid for living! Most of their residents are a bit aged for prostitution …

Cumberland County, ‘FayetteNam’ ? the economy is great there with all the military! people from AVL looking for work should give it a try! Why don’t we encourage young people to seek loftier employment in other bigger cities ? Need to.

    • boatrocker

Uh oh, a sock puppet just complimented me- that was not my intention.

I chose Cumberland County quite randomly, by the way.

At least we see where the cronies and liars known as the government are looking to scam more money and why. Too bad the cowards here and MX just don’t see fit to like actually do the same. It might like actually wake some up to just how corrupt the city and county governments have become.

    • hauntedheadnc

No, we don’t “need” to encourage the young people of Asheville to go somewhere else, or to go anywhere else for that matter. What we actually need to do is to bring loftier employment here. What sense does it make for a city’s biggest export to be, year after year, decade after decade, its young people? Is there some reason that Asheville can not be a place for people to work and not just for people to play?

      • Deplorable Infidel

Yes, many reasons starting with the EVIL city council and county commissioners with all their restrictions, regulations and their habits of ‘picking winners’ to receive ‘special’ taxpayer supplied money to NON entitled entities … Dumbcombe County is CONTROLLED by these EVIL people.
