Consider facts in deciding between Moffitt and Turner

Voters in North Carolina House District 116 considering whether to vote for Rep. Tim Moffitt or Brian Turner should consider the following facts:

During his tenure in office, Moffitt was the sole sponsor of a law that restored the vote on annexation to the people of North Carolina after 53 years of being deprived of the constitutional right to vote on this issue and being subject to “forced annexation.”

Rep. Moffitt also co-sponsored a law that voided Asheville’s zoning authority in six extraterritorial jurisdiction areas, returning them to Buncombe County.

The law sponsored by Rep. Moffitt and other legislators transferring Asheville’s water system to the Buncombe County Sewerage District would prevent future voluntary annexation by Asheville in areas supplied by city water should the Sullivan Acts be voided.

Fracking will probably not take place in WNC due to a recent government agency’s decision based on the inhospitable terrain of the mountains.

During his time in office, Rep. Moffitt has attempted to pass bills that correct past wrongs and that benefit constituents. He serves on 21 or more legislative committees. Early voting starts on Oct. 23 and the general election is on Nov. 4. Please vote YES for Representative Moffitt!

Consider the fact that Rep. Moffitt is apparently afraid to attend the League of Women Voters/YWCA candidate forum tomorrow. He’ll appear at the CIBO breakfast, or in private at his high-end fundraiser with the Governor in Biltmore Park, or in the friendly confines of the 570 WWNC studio, but not anywhere he might have to face real questions.

Hell, even Nathan Ramsey isn’t afraid to attend & face the voters.

Called the YWCA, and currently Rep. Moffitt has yet to even acknowledge the invitation. Brian Turner will be there. John Ager, Nathan Ramsey, Terry Van Duyn, Mark Crawford, and number of the judicial candidates will be there.

No Tim Moffitt. What’s he scared of?

Wow. When your record is so bad you don’t even want to try to defend it…

GOPers are avoiding League of Women Voters forums here & there across the country this election cycle. All four GOP Wake County Commissioners skipped a League forum in August, claiming that the LWV was not “bipartisan” enough.

And Civitas has advised Thom Tillis to skip next weeks League debate with Kay Hagan. No idea if he’s going to follow their advice yet.

If the hard right can’t face questions from such a mainstream, established group as the League of Women Voters, they have gone off the deep end. If Tim Moffitt doesn’t appear, he needs to issue some sort of apology for snubbing the voters.

And this is the other crummy part of this: from what I understand, if Tim Moffitt stays home & watches Real Housewives of New Jersey tonight, voters won’t get to hear Brian Turners answers to the questions either. He’ll get to make a three-minute statement, that’s it.

    Some lose ends:

    1. Whatever happened with the supposed ‘investigation’ of the alleged hacked Twitter account containing anti-gay slurs? Was a culprit identified?
    2. What about the multiple uses of passages lifted from others without attribution by his company, InTouchNC?
    3. Is his company still primarily funded by Republican state legislators’ committees and himself?

There is a continuing question of honesty and integrity swirling around Moffitt. Not to mention his aversion to facing voters, as Barry notes.

“Considering the facts in deciding between Moffitt and Turner” gives us every good reason to vote against Moffitt. Well done.
