Thanks for reading through to the end…

We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.

We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.

Ok y’all, both the MountainX cartoonists have adequately expressed their displeasure at our local high housing costs, consultants, local problems with homelessness, etc. Time to find some a few new subjects. Here are a few ideas: dangerous streets for pedestrians, poor public transportation and infrastructure, rising taxes and crumbling roads (maybe Buncombe county spends most of the taxes it collects in Asheville elsewhere), and oh yeah… Mister Law Abiding, weapon carrying, insurrection supporting, speed racing, wheelchair riding, cold feet having, recently married, more recently divorced, dishonest, lazy, treasonous Madison Cawthorn.

Time to move on folks, it’s like listening to a broken record.

But the housing/consultant/unhoused problems are all related to all the issues you mention. What leader will be visionary enough to be bold/counter-intuitive and say, ‘Let’s slow down and get our home in order before inviting so many extra people’?

That treasonous Cawthorn should be tarred and feathered. What an embarrassment even to his own party.

    • You will have to take it up with MX policy. Both Randy and I have been told by editors that Mountain Xpress has a ” …longstanding policy of not running cartoons that could be seen as partisan during an election.” and “….we’re asking cartoons avoid anything tied to politicians, since we’re entering an election year. ” So you will have to wait until a non-election year to see such cartoons.

Hopefully the little overcompensating proto-facist loses badly and rides his little wheelchair and attached weaponry away into the sunset.

The County has no legal authority to work on roads. Roads are either the responsibility of the municipality or the state (if outside municipality limits).

All I know is the roads in West Asheville have never been worse and I-26 is a disaster — nowhere to pull off on a shoulder between here and the airport. One car breaks down and the whole thing shudders to a halt.

Our streets and roads are definitely in the worst shape in my 48 years in the area…and they’re far worse than some places I’ve lived that are not overpriced and overflowing with wealth…what are we missing? could the TDA pitch in a bit?
