I’ll give someone five dollars if they pee on mumpower and post the video.

    Only metaphorically, though.

What’s anybody going to do with a metaphorical five dollars?

I’d say that’s a fair analogy of what listening to Carl Mumpower feels like. Another one that always comes to mind is the feeling of being groped by some king of molester. The experience of watching someone behave the way he does and at the same time expect to be taken seriously as if his feeble passive aggressive intentions to manipulate are going unobserved feels just like being violated.

Just the very act of ignoring his pathetic attention craving outbursts leaves you feeling like you did something dirty. Like you somehow helped validate the idiocy that comes from his mouth by not acknowledging how insipid it was. But of course, you can’t give into that kind of cry for attention. It’s always better to let his supporters sing his praises for him in their usual fashion to illustrate the point. The thought that somewhere, someone goes to him for counseling as a social worker is just scary. It’s like the creepy fox guarding the unstable henhouse.

    Yes,
you and your small group of friends are alone.

So, he’s in a group, but he’s alone?

Another gem from the robust intellect of our resident laughingstock.

Oh, and talking about small groups, how many stompers are there again?

  5. West Asheville

Our president is a racist, and Mumpower is the only person on our city council that actually thinks the city should be accountable for their ridiculous decisions. You may not like Mumpower’s political views, but come on, he does actually care about Asheville. He doesn’t want to see us spend ourselves into more debt.

    “his pathetic attention craving”

I had my first encounter with him yesterday at a seminar on legal requirements for hiring, with people from Homeland Security and others (I live outside the city limits). I was struck by his behavior: he prances up to the speakers table while others were seated awaiting the start of the program, whereby he introduced himself to the group. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but repeatedly he would meander around (again, while others were seated paying attention to the program) as if he was looking for a baby to kiss. There was a Q & A session, but instead of handing in the questions when requested, he got up several times and walked up to the speaker to hand him his questions. It seemed to me as if he was bound and determined to be the focus of attention.

I love how if you go too far in one direction politically, right or left, you end up at the same place. I know that among Asheville’s more liberal population, growth is a dirty word because developers are baby-eating whores of satan who want to destroy the city. According to Carl Mumpower on the other side of that anti-growth coin though, growth is a dirty word because of the terrifying possibility that construction companies might employ brown people who talk funny.

Which project was it that he managed to state that but not in such a way as to cause an uproar? Was it the Ellington perhaps?

my thoughts exactly. talk about a vocal minority.

    buy a metaphor?

  10. hauntedheadnc

Well, sure you could buy a metaphor, but where would that leave Vanna?

This cartoon is hilarious! …and super-edgy! Terrific job, once again!

My only critique is that everyone is sick of all this “racist” name calling. It doesn’t work for either side of the fake aisle, and anyone who even bothers to do a cartoon about it with a partisan subtext is now suspect. Mountain Xpress credibility is fast declining to Citizen-Times levels.

  12. Piffy!

So, matt, by quoting Mumpower, the cartoonist is playing into partisan politics? I dont follow…

You just rammed a fiery-hot poker up the ass of a fairy that was about to get its wings.

  14. Bjorn

Here’s an idea, how about a cartoon featuring Heath Shuler feeding at Insurance Company troughs?

  15. BGCauble

Mountain Xpress’ credibility has already sunk to the levels of Citizen-Times. Perhaps lower.
