    seriously, molten sucks.

howz about giving someone a little more funny a chance?

Try as I might, I can’t find any humor, or even any unfunny relevant social commentary, in this cartoon.

Why is Frosty nekkid and smiling? Is his hat significant in some way, or perhaps his pipe? Where are his clothes? Where are identifiable body parts that might indicate to us, if not to Snow White, that he is male-gendered? Is he frigid, all nekkid like that? Does she care?

Does the coquettish Snow White have some kind of specialty relationship with nekkid frigid Frosty as per the heart over their heads? It would seem so. Will her seven dwarfs be jealous? Her relationship with those dwarfs has always seemed a bit alternative, IMHO. And now Frosty added to the mix?

Is this a commentary on the sexuality of plaid-shirt-wearing blue-jeaned black farmers? Are they meant to be GLBT? Do they wonder why Snow White and Frosty have come visiting them in their field? What are they really thinking about the fairy-tale heterosexual wedding rituals of white European-Americans? Do they think the white-fairy-tale wedding thing is important, or just a white puff of hooey? Their expressions are too bland to read.

Why does the black woman look like she could wrestle her man under the table with heft alone? Does she envy the 18-inch waist of Snow White, or the greater heft displayed by Frosty? Does she think their purported chromosomes are suspect? Do they think the same of hers, and is that why Frosty is smiling?

Do the black farmers really care if Snow White and nekkid Frosty have a “white and heterosexual” wedding album? Do they really care that MtnX is into fairy tales? Do they wonder why nekkid Frosty is not anatomically correct in the usual medical birth-certificate sense? Could they be truthers? Where is Al Sharpton when they need him?

None of them are wearing wedding rings, so how can we know?

Will someone please explain this cartoon to me.

Good questions all. I think the answer lies somewhere in the realm of the absurd, which, let’s face it, we visit from time to time in these parts — and in these pages.

  4. Piffy!

especially when motlen has to come up with an idea week after week while regardless of it being funny or not.

you guys have far more talented picture-drawers than this.

  5. Molten’s cartoon is not so funny, but Betty’s post sure is. Kudos!
Maybe this time Mr. Molten wasn’t attempting humor, but was just attempting to stimulate some thought….he sure triggered that in Betty.

  6. JWTJr

I couldn’t agree with pff more. Molten is just not funny and his satire can barely/if ever be called that.

He’s like a polisci 101 student that earned a D in the class and whose Dad got him a job.

  7. Hate the game, not the Molton

The cartoon implies that no matter what type of couple was featured in the wedding guide, some people would still fault it for not being diverse. Or it’s an extreme example of how white and heterosexual the wedding guide was (or was perceived).

Betty, to answer at least one of your excellent questions, I believe Molton chose to use Snow White to make it easy for old people to understand. Sadly he failed.

Pff, you try to come up with funny ideas hour by hour, but remain undiscouraged enough to compulsively post them on this Web site anyhow. So you may have a point in noting that talent and resilience are sometimes exlusive of one another.
